Founder Matt Maruca struggled with health problems throughout his childhood after multiple failed attempts to treat him with traditional medical procedures. He learned about mitochondria which, to function properly, need sunlight during the day and darkness at night. Sunlight during the day was pretty straightforward, but avoiding light during the night in today's world seemed very complicated.
